Angkor what? Angkor WHAT? Say ANGKOR WHAT, NOW??????
Hey, guys! So today I'm gonna talk about Angkor Wat! Well what is it?
As tourismCambodia reports, "Angkor Wat, the largest monument of the Angkor group and the best preserved, is an architectural masterpiece. Its perfection in composition, balance, proportions, relief's and sculpture make it one of the finest monuments in the world."
If you haven't heard or read the two words Angkor Wat, and you are over 10, then- I'm not gonna even say!!!! Just kidding. But, I think it has the world record of being on the most travel lists. Not kidding about that.
Some of you are probably thinking just get on with telling me some meaningful facts. Ok ok ok. If you haven't realized it yet, I'm in Cambodia. Many Thai people think that Angkor Wat is theirs and should be in Thailand, but they are WRONG. At least, that is what our tour guide said. Either he is biased, or Thailand is jealous. More facts later...
We went to watch the sunrise and it was really early. Even though there were clouds, it was pretty beautiful.

It was built as a state temple in the 12th century and was later a mausoleum. It was dedicated to the Hindu god of Vishnu and represents Mount Meru where all the devas live.

Can you spot the dog?:

From the picture above you can kind of get the sense of how vast this temple was. But, the pictures don't do a good job, so you can go there yourself.
I love this photo, cause the burst of color from our clothes makes a good contrast to the huge black and white temple!

The Hindu story of the Ramayan covered 1 vast wall of this amazing structure. It was only the part where Rama kills Ravana. (Good kills Bad)!
Our tour guide was helpful again in taking this photo of us!

The guide had us do these cool selfies, but we forgot why! Sorry...

So anyway, Angkor Wat is the biggest (and when I say biggest I mean BIGGEST) religious monument on the planet! Probably even in the universe. As tourismCambodia says, "The plan of Angkor Wat is difficult to grasp when walking through the monument because of the vastness." It covers a whole 402 acres. I am not sure what the exact size of an acre, but I bet that it is a lot. Some people say it is the 7th wonder of the world.
Above are pictures of the central tower. It was so cool to be right next to the tower that you can see in all the photos of Angkor Wat. Below is the central courtyard housing the gigantic central tower.

Goodbye, Angkor Wat. You gave me a great experience. Hope I see you again!!
Did I mention that the stairs were also super steep?

Dear Kirin,
Beautiful pics! Thanks 🙏 for sharing. My favorite may be the black and white one. The steps are very steep. They must of had you go one at a time like the ropes course.
How was sunrise? There must have been so many people. I remember people fighting and someone running out into the pond and people yelling! 😂
Thanks for the history and all the info! The trip of a lifetime continues...
